Our Program
Harbor Haven is a seven-week social skills summer program. It is designed for children ages 3-18 with mild special needs such as ADHD, language delays, sensory-motor issues, high-functioning Autism Spectrum Disorder, and other learning challenges.

At Harbor Haven, we provide a positive and supportive atmosphere to help campers make friends and learn new skills. We are dedicated to non-stop fun and unforgettable experiences for every child. We give campers the opportunity to become successful at navigating their environment - which makes their confidence soar to new heights!
Our program is a comprehensive blend of academic reinforcement, speech and occupational therapies, social skills training and structured summer activities facilitated by skilled adults. Our approach is very effective for higher functioning children diagnosed on the autism spectrum as well as children with other learning, social, sensory-motor, and attention deficit challenges.
A Great Summer Alternative
Harbor Haven provides a great summer alternative to a school-based program. Children with physically aggressive or explosive behavior patterns would benefit from a program with a different type of intervention than Harbor Haven.
We understand that each child is unique, therefore through a wide array of programs and activities we nurture and encourage each one’s optimum participation in order to develop the highest potential at every age and stage.
Inspiring Growth & Building Confidence
Academic Maintenance
Harbor Haven serves as a bridge between one school year and the next, offering a valuable way to encourage growth and prevent regression in children with learning, social, and communication issues. We are aided in achieving excellent individual outcomes by paralleling goals established in each camper’s I.E.P. We provide campers with dedicated time for academic maintenance every day.
Emphasis on Social Skills
Our program is dedicated to the concept that all children benefit from the magic of summer activities. We have combined the most important elements of traditional summer activities with structured support, helping our campers make friends and build confidence in their social, educational, and communication skills.
Speech & Occupational Therapy

Speech Therapy
Our speech therapist works with children throughout the day to expand their receptive and expressive language use. Individual speech therapy is available for any aged child.

Occupational Therapy
With a full time OT on the premises, we provide group therapy for Bright Beginnings and Lower Camp groups and can provide individual OT for any aged child.
Our Facilities
Harbor Haven is located in West Orange, New Jersey, on a beautiful private school campus. We are fortunate to be on eight acres of beautiful property, which includes a pool as well as athletic fields. While the majority of camp activities take place outdoors, the setting boasts an air-conditioned building where indoor activities take place.
CAMP ACTIVITIES
Every day is a fun-filled day at Harbor Haven! Our core areas include swimming instruction, athletics, creative arts, music, and nature/science. We promote many skills through other activities including karate, yoga, bicycle riding instruction, cooking instruction, and performing arts.
Our program areas are run by adult specialists with knowledge and certifications in their content area as well as experience in working with children with special needs. They are teachers or other professionals, such as mental health workers, therapists, and more.
