Why Harbor Haven?
For 27 summers, we have provided continuous opportunities for our campers to grow, explore, develop new skills and form friendships, all within a safe, nurturing and accepting environment. Harbor Haven serves as a bridge between one school year and the next, offering a valuable way to prevent regression in children with learning, social and communication issues. We are aided in achieving excellent individual outcomes by paralleling goals established in each camper’s I.E.P.
Commitment to Acceptance
At Harbor Haven, we provide a safe and enjoyable summer for children, where they can grow and improve important skills. Our programs are nurturing and supportive, creating a positive experience that boosts confidence and self-esteem. We focus on language, motor, attention, cognitive, social, and behavior skills in all of our activities. We believe that socializing with other children is crucial for healthy development. Our program includes intensive social skills training to prepare children for success in the real world. By giving your child the Harbor Haven summer experience, you can help ease their transition back to school in the fall and prevent academic and skill regression.
Programs for All Ages
We understand that each child is unique, therefore through a wide array of programs and activities we nurture and encourage each one’s optimum participation in order to develop the highest potential at every age and stage.

Harbor Haven is especially known for our ages 3-5 programming. "Bright Beginnings", our 3-5 year old division, is uniquely constructed to provide mildly delayed young children with a comprehensive approach to support them in their development

Each age division in our main camp program gets to experience fun-filled activities, social skills support, and academic maintenance.

LIFE is a unique full-day summer program that provides support for meeting transition goals. It is a balanced combination of structured learning experiences that promote growth with a variety of important life skills.

A two-week day travel program for 16-18-year-olds with mild special needs, created and operated by Harbor Haven. Teens can participate as a natural extension of the acclaimed 5-week LIFE Program at Harbor Haven or as a stand-alone one or two-week summer experience.
Our Facilities
Harbor Haven operates on the 8-acre site of a private school campus at 1418 Pleasant Valley Way in West Orange.
In addition to the beautiful air-conditioned school building, there are three athletic fields and an outdoor, in-ground, swimming pool. The facility is well maintained and has a state-of-the-art full-sized gymnasium, as well as a cafeteria and many classrooms.

We encourage all parents to speak to one of our directors about your child’s issues and the expectations you have for a summer program. During this discussion, you will learn about the children who attend Harbor Haven and you will compare your child’s school placement to the program.
