IF YOU ARE THINKING ABOUT WORKING AT HARBOR HAVEN DAY CAMP THIS SUMMER.......
What should you expect........... ...to have fun ...to make some of the best friends I’ve ever had--both among campers and staff ...to be exhausted ...to feel good about the work I have done ...to learn a lot about myself and others and to teach others at the same time ...to find out just how strong my sense of humor is ...to be frustrated ...that the actual money I earn could never adequately pay for what I do ...to work hard ...to work very hard ...to laugh ...to do some of the most embarassing things I’ve ever done and to have a great time doing them ...to be outdoors ...to gain more from the experience than I expected...much more ...to never have thought that 7 weeks could go so slowly or so quickly at the same time ...to learn ...to wonder I’ll be able to go to the bathroom ...to feel needed ...to feel that lump in my throat when it is time to say goodbye ...to never have the exact same view of myself, others, or on life again ...to have no free time during the camp day ...to grow ...to work with and rely on people who are different than me-race-age-nationality-beliefs and values ...to test my creativity ...to test my sensitivity ...to see things through the eyes of a child again ...to have had an experience that I’ll take home-and no one will quite understand-no matter how many pictures I share or how long I talk ...to do things that I never thought I would be able to do ...to feel like I’ve done my share and still; be expected to do more ...to go the extra mile--just to make a child’s day ...to realize that sometimes little things make a huge difference to a child ...to make mistakes ...to be unsure of my abailities to adeqautely care for someone else’s children ...to be a friend to others who need my friendship more than I might ever realize ...to wear my bathing suit every day, and assist in teaching and life-guarding at the pool ...to be an assistant at a specialty activity ...to be a hero/star to the campers in my care ...to be held accountable ...to leave my personal life and non-camp related talk out of camp
What shouldn’t you expect........... ...to be on vacation ...to be asked to do things that I’m not able to do ...to be allowed to have a summer romance at the expense of the campers in my care ...a lot of privacy ...to eat a leisurely lunch ...things to always go as planned ...to ever regret my camp experience
