Tara has been part of the Harbor Haven leadership team since 2002.  She began in the West Orange location as an assistant supervisor, and then served for a number of years as a supervisor.  When the Marlboro location opened in the summer of 2005, Tara became the assistant director and in 2006 rose to the director position.  The upcoming season will mark her sixth with the Harbor Haven organization and her third as director.

Having received her Bachelor of Arts Degree and Teacher of the Handicapped certificate from Rowan University in 2001, Tara went on to teach at the Community School in Teaneck, NJ for a number of years.  She then joined the special education team in the township of Orange, while pursuing her Master’s Degree at Kean University. Tara is currently teaching special education in the township of West Windsor. She has had extensive tutoring experience with learning disabled children and has worked at a testing, tutoring and social skills center.

Tara has also had numerous experiences working with special needs youngsters in recreational settings prior to joining Harbor Haven in 2002.  She worked with Camp Sunshine, coached cheerleading and worked as a recreational counselor in the community of Fairlawn.

Sarah , the assistant director, has been a member of the Harbor Haven staff for nine years.  She started as a group counselor and rose in the ranks to become an assistant supervisor, supervisor and in 2008 will be serving for the third year as assistant director in Marlboro.  Having worked previously at two other summer camps, she is going on her eleventh year in summer camp management. 

Sarah obtained her Bachelor’s Degree at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, in Rehabilitative Psychology.  She received her Master’s Degree from NYU in Counseling Psychology.  She has worked with special needs children and adults in numerous settings throughout her undergraduate and graduate years. 

Sarah is currently working as a mental health counselor for Choices for Change.  She works in private school settings counseling elementary, middle and high school aged children, who are exhibiting challenging emotions and behaviors.  Sarah also works year round in the Harbor Haven office in the areas of programming and staff development.
