Robyn Tanne has been a special educator since 1977, working on both the elementary and middle school levels. Her undergraduate degree was from Boston University, while graduate work was done at American University. Robyn has taught in several New Jersey school districts, most recently in the Union Township Public Schools. While with the Union schools, Robyn became trained in the Wilson Reading system. After many years in the classroom, Robyn then worked as a transition coordinator for the district. During the summers, Robyn maintained her love of camping by working as a supervisor and administrator at Harbor Hills Day Camp. In 1996, Robyn with Skip Vichness, former director of Harbor Hills, decided to create a unique summer program environment for children with mild special needs. Harbor Haven was born in the summer of 1996 and opened in the summer of 1997. Robyn is the Executive Director of Harbor Haven and having now retired from teaching, spends all of her time to develop programming and staff for each wonderful summer.

Sarah Tanne, Assistant Director

Sarah is no newcomer to Harbor Haven.  The summer of 2010 will mark her tenth year within the Harbor Haven organization having started as a group counselor, then assistant supervisor, supervisor, assistant director for three years in Marlboro and director there for one year.  Having worked in two other camp settings prior to Harbor Haven, she is now entering her twelfth year in summer program management.

Sarah has a Bachelor’s Degree in Rehabilitation Psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.  She obtained her Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology from New York University and is a licensed school counselor in the state of New Jersey.  She began her career as a school therapist in two private school settings.  In this capacity she provided direct mental health services which included intake assessment, individual/group therapy, and crisis intervention.

Currently, Sarah is working as a school therapist at Washington Academy, a school for children with special needs, where she is responsible for recognizing, assessing and intervening with children exhibiting various behavioral and learning disorders.  Additionally, Sarah is an integral part of student Individualized Education Plan meetings.  She is responsible for psychologically and emotionally assessing students’ cognitive ability and learning styles for the purpose of educational planning.  She is accountable for consulting with professionals who are involved with the students in order to make achievable and appropriate recommendations and plans for each child.  Sarah also maintains liaisons with community agencies, parents and teachers to ensure comprehensive and effective service delivery to the students.

Sarah works part time throughout the school year in the Harbor Haven office.  She has been instrumental in staff development, event programming, and creating curriculum for both the West Orange and Marlboro summer locations.  She brings a lot of creativity, knowledge, experience and skills to her position as assistant director at Harbor Haven and is looking forward to this great opportunity!
